My guess is that you have an intermittant alternator ground wire problem, but that's only because I just had to do this on my '90. (In other words, it could be something completely different.)
To check for a bad alt gnd, check the alt's output by placing the DVOM's black probe on a good ground location, & then placing the red probe on the contact of the fattest red wire coming off the alt. You should get around 14v output. If not, string a new gnd wire from the alt to the engine block & recheck.
Good luck! Electrical probs are the most frustrating ...
