Replace your old battery asap. Weak old battery kills alternator. That's exactly happened to me, but worst, I got lazy and put the charger on it every night. Every morning I see that the battery is full but by the time I get home at night, the battery is nearly dead or even before I leave work. So,I finally went and got my self a new battery, but by then the original alternator had to work so hard for the last 2 weeks and now finally done working. Ok, here is the good part. Saab alternator is very durable, well, atleast it had been for the last 13 years. The only thing ever go out on these alternators is the bushings. You can buy them here on this site or call around, they only cost about $45 complete set. Replace the bushing is a lot easier than replacing the entire alternator, trust me.
First, buy your self a new battery and tighten those belts. Drive it for a day and see. You should also inspect the ground wire, at the bottom of the alternator to te alternator bracket. That gound wire is very important and should be in good condition and tight.
Try the last two steps and let us know and we'll continue to troubleshoot this problem for you. Since this issue just came up 2 weeks ago for me, so it's still fresh on my mind.
