Speaker Questions Posted by saablover [Email] ![]() ![]() |
After much reading and shopping, I am near the end of getting my stereo system purchased. I am going to put in a Nakamichi CD-45z and power it with a Precision Power A404. The last piece of the puzzle is the speakers. After much debating, I have decided to go with Focals. I had planned on putting 4" in the front, and 6.5" components in the back, both in the stock locations. I know, I know, I should abandon the dash location. But at this point in time, I really want the car to remain as orignal looking as possible (thus the Nakamichi as opposed to the dancing dolphin HUs out there).
Today, I pulled the speaker out of the dash to look at the mounting depth. I was surprised by how much space is there. Thus, my question is whether I could put in 5.25" components in as opposed to the 4" coaxial? Mounting depth seems no problem, there is the extra space already there for the tweeter (I would have to cut/knock out the little circle behind the defrost), and I think I could widen the grill opening to accomodate it. My thinking for going with the 5.25" is that the larger woofer would provide more bass than the 4". Anyone have any experience doing this?
One last question about this is if I do go with the component set in the dash, is there any advice anyone would have in regards to cross-over placement? Should I avoid or be wary of placing it near any of the wires, etc in the dash? Thanks for any help!!!
