I just installed a set of Boston Acoustic 5 1/4" components in the front. I had to fabricate a new set of dash panels (since I didn't want to ruin the original ones) out of hardboard. I sat the speakers on top of the board instead of below to get a bit more clearance underneath and covered the whole assembly with black speaker cloth. You can barely tell if you don't know anything about Saab's that there has been a change. I did have to move the defroster grills closer to the front, which isn't ideal, but there didn't seem to be any other way to do it.
The tweets just got mounted between the carpet and the dash assembly (near the knees). Sounds pretty good... _way_ better than the 4" stocks... and better than the 4" components. The crossovers went into the bin below the ashtray.
It's not that hard to fabricate the panels... you just need a dremel tool or something similar and some time... and I think it's still way easier to do that than fabricate kicks.
