If you are stuck with only using the OEM locations I would do like someone else stated & install the tweeters down below the dash with the 4's in the stock location. This will give you the best imaging you can get w/o cutting or modifying the car much at all!! Going with 5 1/4's on the dash would be difficult due to the instrument clusters circuit board, I would think a larger speaker would interfere with that.
I do not think it's worth the $$$ to get a good component set in the back I would get a good 2 or 3 way 6.5. Then add a 6.5 in midbass driver under each front seat in a small sealer box. Use your amp to cross them off to say 150 hz & below & you should be on your way. I did a similar setup to this 5-6 yrs ago (4's in dash, tweeters under dash, 6.5 in sealed box) & the sound was very good!!!!
Kick panels are ideal however it looks like it's not a option for you
