The job of the battery is to provide power for starting. The alternator provides all the power to run the car, and enough left over to re-charge the battery. The battery IS NOT designed to be fully discharged- doing so kills a large percentage of it's life.
I would call this a Do Not Drive situation. I have limped a car home on just the battery, driving for about 40 minutes. That was a warm day, a good battery, NO engine starts, no headlights, and I stayed off the brakes. Why off the brakes? Saabs have lots of brakelights, and they pull 5-6 amps every time you hit the brakes. Would I leave my driveway in this condition? No. As BoBH says, you'll not only need a tow, but you'll kill your battery.
