Anthony,

I've purchased 9 SPG's in the last year. So you can use as a gauge on 'market price', which is what the going rate is. (I probably have more pricing points than Edmunds or KBB). Here's what I paid for:
1 - '88 SPG grey 225k with rebuilt head, new turbo, new tranny, tuned nicely. Body had rust. Inside was pretty much trashed. Loved the car. Rear-ended and totaled after one month. Paid $3000 in Michigan. Got $2800 in settlement from insurance.
2 - '90 SPG red with 140k. Inside is good. Rust and faded paint. Ran rough. Paid $1700 in Buffalo, NY.
3 - '87 SPG grey with 126k. One owner, all maintenance records, no rust, runs good. No mods. About 8/10 condition. paid $2700 in Michigan.
4 - '87 SPG grey with airflow kit and whaletail. Bad tranny. I bought it for the kits. Paid $900 in Milwaukee.
5 - '91 SPG red probably hit and re-painted. In pretty good shape except for slight paint mismatch. I paid $2300 in New Jersey.
6 - '91 SPG green. I paid $3000. Body rusted. Runs ok. Needs lots of TLC in CT.
7 - '87 SPG grey with 170k with rebuilt turbo. Drove it back with lots of tranny leak. It has whaletail. Has slight body damage. I paid $1700 in IN.
8 - '87 SPG grey with 225k paid $1700. Something in the drive line busted within 3 days of purchase. I haven't figured out what yet in NJ.
9 - '90 SPG black with 186k. Just picked it up. Runs awesome. No rust. Whale tail. I paid $2500 from DE.

In the mean time, I missed some real good deals.

'90 Red SPG for $2000 in real good shape
'90 Red SPG for $4300 in really good shape with modest performance upgrades
'88 grey SPG for $1200 in fair shape

In general, '91 SPG's will fetch higher prices, because it is the last year of SPG. Only 40 red, 109 green, and 100+ black's. If you research the Saabnet Classified for sold listings, most '91 SPG's were sold in the $3000+ depending on condition.

Hope this helps,

James from Michigan
