Let's ignore the Saab logo for a minute. The first car you're looking at is 18 years old and has 300Km on the clock. The other one is relatively younger - a mere 15 years old, 'said' to be in good shape and well maintained. I'm sure the person selling it has no reason not to be totally open and honest.

I don't care who made the car, Saab, Volvo, Toyota, or Packard. ANY car that is near 20 years old and well over 200Km is going to have significant wear and tear. Anything that hasn't been replaced recently will require replacement soon. And lots of stuff will be plain tired - bushings, hinges, electronics, bearings.

If you are looking for a reliable car that won't cost you a lot to maintain, that you don't want to mess with, then buy a car with lower milage and fewer years. Period.

That said, Saabs are known as good high mileage cars because in general, they are well built. Well-maintained, they can easily go 300-400Km. But the key is maintenance - things need to be replaced. Other cars don't need much maintenance for the first 150Km, but make up for it by dying shortly thereafter. No need for spares.

There are no cars that run nearly forever without needing repair parts. No, hold that thought - some Matchbox racers only need the wheels lubed.

Hey, I love Saabs, and own presently own some older ones with high mileage. They take maintenace to keep running. I keep them running because I love the cars - the safety, the space, the way they drive. But unless you're looking for a particular Saabish attribute, (Man, GOTTA have that key in the floor!) consider what you're looking for in a car. At this point in time, any car built in the '80's is either going to be the weekend cruiser/project car, or a beater.
