Here is how to remove the vacuum canister. Posted by Jon [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: How to remove Vacuum Canister in 90 SPG?, Taylor, Sat, 3 Jul 2004 10:56:44 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Taylor,
I have removed vacuum canisters from 3-4 cars that I have parted out. I just put one back into an 86 and took it back out. There are no wires or power steering reservoir in this car. In order to put it in and take it out:
1. Drain the power steering reservoir and disconnect the hoses. Remove the reservoir.
2. Grab ahold of the track for the hood with your left hand, closest to the door hinge and pull back slightly while you move the vacuum reservoir along the wheel well towards the front of the car. The canister will only fit out thru the indentation / opening for the power steering reservoir hoses.
As there is no wiring in the cars that I have removed the canisters from, you will probably need to move the wiring to get the canister by them. Remember that the canister needs to follow the contour of the fender, so you may need to feed the canister under the wiring.
Try it, if you can't get it, let me know. I will photograph the procedure and post the photos.
Good luck,
Jon
