You will perform what is called a "dirty" conversion. Old oil (mineral) will be left in the system to mix with new oil (ester?). Process that seems to work best, and, I admit, the most work is to:
1. Remove and drain the compressor of old oil. Do not blow out-let it drain.
2. Remove the lines and clean out with flushing fluid or mineral spirits. Take a lot of time to vacuum and blow the lines out after flushing.
3. Remove and replace the receiver/dryer and the expansion valve.
4. Flush, etc. as per 2. above the condenser and evaporator.
5. Assemble the system using R-134A compatible "O" rings.
6. Compressor Oil: Add about 4 ounces to the compressor and the remainder
of about 4.5 ounces to the condenser, evaopator,receiver-dryer and a/c
lines.
7. Be sure to keep the receiver/dryer sealed and install last.
8. Evacuate the system THOROUGHLY. At least 30 minutes.
9. Use a guage set to determine pressures for filling the r-134A. You will
use 80-85% by volume of R-134A to get to the same operating pressures
as R-12.
10.Get a book like Haynes on a/c to get an education. Get the Saab manual
for quantities of ester oil in each location.
11.Most important-these are highlights only-read the fine info on this
site. A lot of work, you say? Sure is, to get good long-term results.
