The later model sanden should be R134 setup already (updated gaskets and lip seal). I have one of these for comparison to my SS170 on my '91. The Sanden is more readily available and cheaper than the SS170. It seems to be a better compressor than the SS170. I think you can get a seal kit to convert your old one over to the R134 style pretty cheaply. I have not looked, yet, but think it is possible. Try A/C kits, vintage air, and hotrod air to see what a 'best price' is on a new compressor is and if a seal/gasket kit is available. You may be surprised. These are used on many conversions and retrofits. The pulley may be different and the back casting with the hose connection, but you may be able to swap parts to get what you need and save a bit of cash.
