Surprisingly high mileage cars can often be in better condition than low mileage cars--people who drive a lot of miles tend to take better care of their cars. It would be pretty hard to go wrong on a car that costs $500--for a lot of people that's a months car payment. If it will get you from here to there for two or three months it's a bargain. If you get a Bentley shop manual, do some work yourself, buy parts from wrecking yards, etc. you'd can keep a Saab going for a long time pretty cheaply. Unless the car is on death's door it would be worth a shot. If nothing else you might learn a lot about working on Saabs--a valuable asset if you intend on owning others.
