I don't guarantee that your soldering gun or iron is strong enough but you definately don't need a propane torch like you mentioned. I did it with my soldering gun for the first time in about 15 or 20 min. The existing brushes are crimped first, soldered afterword. So, first off, grab a pair of cutting pliers and cut the end off the connectors on the back of the brushes. Then heat it up and the springs keeping the brushes extended will usually push it right out of the sleeve. So now that you've got it all cleaned out, put the new aluminum ( i think...) sleeves in there and insert the tail of the copper wire coming out of the brush (don't forget the spring). While you're holding the tail with a pair of pliers, crush the crimp. At that point you can let go without it shooting out and solder it. By the way, make sure the regulator is in a vice to make this all possible. That's it...
