Yeah, I had something similar happen to my '88 SPG. The description of the damage is pretty similar except that I didn't have any problems with the doors. I was distruaght, too.
As far as dealing with the insurance company on the value of the car goes, get as many quotes from high-end "historic" SAAB dealers on what they would sell a red SPG in the same pre-accident condition.
DO NOT accept the insurance company's first offer. Keep them on the hook until they give you real replacement value for the car. The longer it sits on the insurance adjuster's desk, the worse he looks to his boss.
And get your brother to a doctor/chiropractor/head & neck specialist and have him thoroughly checked out. The SAAB headrest is in a the best position of any car I've driven, but it's not perfect. Document *everything*.
Do you have any good pictures that show the pre-accident, not-bent-above-the-wheel-wells condition?
Was there a ticket issued to the guy who hit him?
Good luck. We're pulling for you all.
