thems the breaks... i need help! Posted by Saabu [Email] ![]() ![]() |
87 SPG:
over the last few weeks r & R'd the following:
PS rack
steering column u joint
lower control arms and bushings
front brake calipers
inner and outer drive joints
diff cover gasket
re-bled front calipers, fired her up and got absolutely no pedal resistance - went right to floor. pumped and pumped to no avail.
then i re-bled all 4 wheels according to Bentley procedure (ie rf, lr, lf, lr).
pulled off large hose from i-man to booster, lots of resistance so it was holding vacuum, so that means check valve works, right? btw, brake Booster was giving me no problems before work commenced.
so looks to me like master cylinder decided to give up ghost while i was working on things... strange!!
went to put a spare BMC on (from older 900) but its a different bolt pattern (narrower) than one on the car, so was stymied there.
Also noticed that older boosters dont sport the in-line check valve like my SPG does - apparently this changed in 1987.. question - is check valve inside booster on older units?
if so i'll swap out the entire booster & BMC as i've got to take the dash out for other repairs.
anyway, any opinions would be appreciated.
