First off, the JB weld(non-conductive epoxy) is used to fill the melted dimple in the hard plastic underneath the printed circuit film. It's the defroster paint that is conductive and used to restore the film.
Plan B is to jump a wire directly to the bulb holder from any 12 volt source that is switched by the ignition.
First figure out which side of the bulb holder is supposed to be positive and which side is ground. You can do this with a meter working through the speaker hole. Then with the bulb holder out of the car, solder a jumper wire to the postive side. then hook up the other end of the jumper to any switched power source. This kluge will outlast the car.
I used the defroster paint method, which held up fine, but painting the stuff on while working through the speaker hole (backwards with a mirror) took a couple of hours. You could do the jumper wire in less than an hour.
