Drivers side lock cylinder feels loose

I have been having some trouble with the lock on the driver's side. I need to pull and push the key very slightly before I'm able to turn it. So I took my door apart today and got the cylinder out. Everything seems normal but the whole thing just feels loose. I have the same problem when I have just the lock and key in my hand. I need to gently move the key inside the lock before it will engage. It looks like there is some plastic piece that is partially missing at the bottom of the cylinder. Is this a common problem? Any solutions or should I get a new one at the dealer? I can't figure out how to take the lock apart.
By the way, I was extremely impressed with the door. Mine is a 91 900NA with 170k miles and the door panel was very easy to remove with very nice quality molded foam inside. Then there was a complete plastic molded sheet to protect the panel from any moisture and that was attached with a bead of silicone on the lower half. Everything seemed to be well engineered and came apart very easily. I have never seen anything like this on a car.
