Ok, Dinger got me thinking alot about this topic lately. Forget appearance...what is the real difference in light output or in layman's terms, what the light really does to light up the road in front of me in a driving light that is rectangular versus one that is round? Assume the same type of beam ("driving," "eurobeam" or "pencil") and assume we're only talking about Hella brand lights. My '83 has Saab OEM optional fog lights with flip up shields that quite frankly I don't use, but I am considering adding new driving lights. Yes, appearance is an issue but I want the best light output I can find as well. My car has E-code headlights but they do not produce beams that shine terribly far down the road. Like many of you, I suspect, I tend to drive shall we say "briskly" and at night on back roads I'd like more light projecting way out ahead of me.
