You must spin the piston in dont compress it. There is a special tool for this on ebay at the moment, it looks like a 1" or so diameter disk with 2 pins in it and a cranked handle. they work fine if you can get it on the end of the piston. If you can't it is possible to wind the piston in with a set of water pum pliers if you are careful. dont pinch the rubber seal with the pliers. It can be done quite easily as I have had to do it a couple of times myself.
