What the hell just happened?

1993 900s 2.1. I was just pulling away from being stopped at a red light and the car shuddered to a halt. I disengaged the clutch fast enough to keep the engine running, but the car would not move. I had felt slight hesitation shortly before i came to the light, but thought it may be from having just starting the car a minute or so before. At first i was afraid it may be the transmission, but i can easily shift through and engage all gears, and even get the car to rock a bit, but no real motion. Even trying to push it in neutral was hopeless. I'm leaning more towards the ABS system or the master cylinder. I do get a very intermittant flash of the ABS light every couple months, but was told it had done that for years, and had been inspected thoroughly, when i bought the car a year ago. I have just had the car towed home and on the way the tow driver said he would be able to notice any drag from the rear wheels, and felt none. So i guess i'd like to know if anyone had heard of this, because its pissing down rain right now and i cant go see if the front calipers are locked or what.
