Calipher Replacement

I had a mechaninc look at my brakes and tell me I needed to replace my rotor and caliphers on my front. Has anyone replaced these? Is it hard? Time Required? Also do you need to replace both caliphers at once or can you do it one at a time.
Also do the rotors need to be turned when you buy them or are they ready out of the box?
1986 900s
Thanks,
Matt
