on my 1987 900t. It is about a 5 on a scale of 1-10 for difficult. I definetly had to buy better tools to remove the caliper bolts - that was the toughest part for me. I needed a long handled 1/2 inch drive swivel head rachet with impact sockets - I got it at Sears. You should also have the special SAAB tool for adjusting the caliper - it is a pretty cheap tool, about $10. I bought all the parts I needed from a site sponsor - the calipers are rebuilt, and you should be aware that others (myself included) have had problems with CROWN rebuilt calipers - other brands have worked well and you should ask which brand you will receive BEFORE you place your order. Rotors come ready to use - just clean them thoroughly with brake cleaner to remove any residual grease. You should also replace the pads - I would buy PBR Deluxe if I was ordering today. Have brake pad paste and brake fluid as well. You better have a Bentley manual before you try to do this - again, order from a site sponsor. You can find all the site sponsors at the SAABNET home page. Clean the wheel hub with a wire brush so the rotor will sit square on the wheel. Bleed the brakes when you are done.
By the way, not to question your mechanic, but what makes him say the calipers need to be replaced? In my experience they either work fine or fail completely - does he see some fluid leaking? Good luck - it is a weekend project first time, counting all the trips to Sears for tools you realize you need.
