I wouldn't use a power sprayer Posted by Ari [Email] (#2847) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ari) on Fri, 14 Jan 2005 06:04:11 In Reply to: Power spray to clean leaked fluids from new used car?, arabiflora [Profile/Gallery] , Thu, 13 Jan 2005 22:53:48 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The electrical connectors and boxes in the engine compartment are waterproof, but only up to a point. They weren't designed to handle direct spray. Therefore, you run a very great risk of driving soapy/greasy water into electrical connectors and boxes. I have heard of some very nasty things happening on the NG900 by folks using power sprays. Your '93 has a bunch of nice electronics under the hood.
The advantage of the power spray is that the force of the water saves you elbow grease. My advice would be to apply a degreaser directly on those areas that need degreasing. Let the stuff work, and use some elbow grease and a bunch of cheap nylon dish pads to scrape the stuff off. Rinse by letting water flow over things - avoid spraying water AT things.
Yes, this is a lot more work. And I'm sure that plenty of folks have used all manner of power sprayers and their cars are just fine. And I've heard from the Saab Master Technician about cars with fused ABS boxes. I wouldn't take the risk, personally.
