Saab C900 clutch is the only "fun" clutch to do in the world. Why not take one out of a parts car, it'll take less than an hour and be good practice for the real thing.
Since it is SO easy to replace, I also tend to be casual about reusing parts - it's not like a NG900 when getting too them costs $600 so you want ot be sure everything is right. I've done a few C900s by just throwing in a new plate (good, though - sachs or equiv), relubing the throwout bearing if it felt OK, and rebuilding the slave with a $2 rebuild kit (it's just a couple O-rings). Lot of "experts" will tell you you can rebuild them, but I have done a couple and both are fine after 1 1/2 and 3 years respectively. I use a mild scotchbrite pad to completely remove all the varnish deposit on the bore, then lube the O-rings with a proper hydraulic seal lube (this has been proven to greatly increase the life of O-rings used in hydraulic/brake/clutch service as compared to using brake fluid for assembly lube).
Re special ring tool, I find a spark cable as in haynes too big to get in easily and compresses anyhow so it doesn't do the job as well as a solid piece of thick wire. If you misjudge, or the tool slips out, you can always put a thicker one in, or reset the one you have, by using a prybar or big screwdrive to pry to levers down a few at a time, and work the ring tool in a bit at a time.
Geez writing about it gets me all sentimental thinkin about how easy and fun it is - only clutch I ever did where I never had to get under the car! I got a NG900 that needs a clutch and it will really be a nightmare.
