First off, I would just like to say how helpful I found all the previous postings. I certainly would not have been able to remove the O2 sensor without the insight. I highly advise using a blow torch to heat up the old O2 sensor before removal. I tried without it for hours to no avail but once I heated it up- it came right out.
In any event my question involves the sensor itself. I read in previous postings that there are two wire and three wire O2 sensors that come with or without wiring harnesses. My 1995 900 S had a 3 wire O2 sensor. I was surprised to find that the sensor autozone sold to me has 4 wires. Having already removed the old O2 sensor I decided to put in the 4 wire O2 sensor. I was surprised to find that not only did the sensor fit but the wiring harness also fit. The car began running and idling much better and my gas milage improved significantly. However, the gas milage per gallon never raised back up above 14.6 and it previouisly hovered around 25 MPG and the Check Engine Light will come on and off. I need to know what I need to do? Can I still use the four wire O2 Sensor? Do I need to splice 2 of the 4 wires into 3 wires? DO I need to replace the whole thing again? Please help Me.
I would greatly appreciate any knowledge any of you have to share.
Thank You
Robert Weber
