I'm getting ready to DIY the front crank seal/ pulley (it's leaking oil at the seal), and it sounds like I may as well remove the oil pump and renew its o-ring at the same time. The question is, do you have to do anything special when you put the oil pump back on to prime it? Bentley talks about priming it by removing the filter (ugh!) and filling the channel up there with oil, Townsend says to pack the pump gears with vaseline or assembly lube, and others say don't use vaseline (makes a mess), all you need to do is dribble oil on the gears before you remount it. So what is the recommended way to clean/ reassemble the oil pump?
