1987 900T convertible

It was a nice day today so I decided to get the convertible out of short term storage and put some miles on it. It hasn't been run in about 6-8 weeks. It is stored in a barn with a false floor (no contact with the ground) which is a dry environment. Car worked perfectly when parked. Car has 90,100 miles. [Still for sale in the classifieds by the way!]

Upon startup the parking brake light would not go off when the parking brake was released. None of the OEM analog gauges had power (volt meter, oil pressure, outside air temperature). The blower would not work on the normal 1-3 settings or on the max setting. The turn signals did not work but the 4-way flashers did work.

After realizing all of this stuff wasn't working which was after I had driven about 5 miles, I stopped and shut down the engine. Naturally my first check was fuses. All fuses were good. All relays were tight in their sockets.

So I restarted the engine and all was well. All gauges worked, the blower worked, the turn signals worked and the parking brake light was off. However, when I started the engine I heard an awful screeching sound. My first thought was that the alternator belt was slipping, although this was more like a bad bearing sound not a squealing belt sound. But in about 2 seconds it went completely away and on about 10 engine shut downs / start ups while running errands this sound never came back.

So I started driving, both highway and city driving. I had the radio on. I know the radio has a clean power feed because I installed it myself last summer and ran new power wires when I did it. Every time I touched the brake pedal hard the radio would shut off and then come back on. I noticed also that when I touched the brake pedal my volt meter was jumping around from the high 13's where it normally is down to 11-12. The jumping was very fast. I also noticed while driving at about 65 MPH that the volts were jumping around.

In case you're wondering the alternator has a new diode / brush pack installed maybe 500 miles ago.

As I continued to drive the car on my errands the voltage jumping problem got smaller and smaller until it was barely noticeable. The brake pedal would cause a tiny jump. Turning on the turn signals would cause a jump (downward) every time the signals were on then back to normal voltage when they were off.

Anyone have any ideas? Bad alternator ground? Bad turn signal relay?
