You should verify that the ignition-starter switch is not sticking in or close to "start" position, not returning properly to ignition on-run mode.
The screeching you heard just after starting could have been the starter still engaged in the flywheel, being "overrun" and spinning wicked fast. That risks ruining the starter and should not be permitted to keep happening. Most of the rest of the problems sound typical of how a car behaves if not switched back completely to run mode position of ignition.
Try wiggling the key back a little bit after you start it.
There are lots of posts on here about starter switch-ignition lock cylinder sticking.
