Saab Brit, if you find yourself at sea with this question, I would strongly suggest that you take it to your nearest Saab independent specialist. Spend a few quid to have the car thoroughly diagnosed and inspected. Same thing as many of us do when buying a used car. Still useful for your own car, if you haven't those abilities yourself.
Where do you find a specialist? Look through this website, see if you can locate a Saab owners group where you are for references, post an inquiry on General Bulletin Board for a Saab shop you can trust.
Everyone here would love to see you commit to keeping and maintaining this lovely motorcar, but of course the costs may not be practical for you.
Bottom Line: Well maintained Saabs are just getting broken in at 100,000 miles.
Good Luck
