If you feel it is your being overweight is the issue, it isn't the case with these belts. Saab got this wrong. Those earlier loop syle belts are the exact same length. They are actually shorter because you loose about 4 inches by not having a clip. The seat belts are also a problem for shorter people as well. If you put the seat all the way forward, there isn't enough length for the smallest sized person with those old loop belts. I updated mine with the clip belts to allow my wife to use it(the 4 inch gain). However, if she was pregnant, or overweight to even half that size, she wouldn't be able to buckle up after that belt gain (Good safety engineering Saab!!!). Saab did at one time, make seat belt extenders as well as pedal extentions(real reason is belts for pedals). If these are no longer available, here is a fix (I guarantee better than Saabs) . All seat belts are basically the same width. You can unbolt the lower securing bolt on the floor. to get the clip off, you need to carefully using a razor, cut the stichting on the end loop. Slide off you clip. Go to a junkyard, and look for ANY make or model recieving belt clip assy at the center seat area. You will quickly realize 99% of them are quite longer and secure in the one bolt manner like the Saab. You will need to get the matching clip from the other donar car feed belt. Install the donar clip in your Saab belt and re-sew the seam with heavy nylon thread(available at fabric shops). I've posted many times about seat belt issues on the 99 board so you could look up more information there on the archives. By the way, I'm 5'10" with a 32" waistline. I like to sit as close as I can because I drive a lot, and it helps prevent lower back pain by being closer to the pedals. I have an issue with these belts, so your weight is not the problem with these belts. Best of luck.
