synthetic oil?

I suspect this is going to be like a religious or political question, with everyone having a different opinion.
But what the heck!
I've bought a 93 900S 5-spd no turbo w/105,000 miles on the clock (or so it says...the speedo is broken and that will be attended to ASAP).
This is much newer than most of my other cars (an 86 Jeep, 71 and 73 MGBs are the otehr items in my "fleet"). For the old cans, I use 20-50 GTX Castol. The SAAB, though, seems to want 10-30 or at the hottest, 15-40. I live in N. Calif where 100+ degree summer temps is normal and winter temp seldom drops below 30. Which tells me use 15-40.
BUT: synthetics (Mobil 1 at Costco is $24/case of 6 qts) offers (a) better heat resistance (b) better contamination resistance and (c) better lubricity. It also offers, or so I'm told, greater tendency to leak, especially in older cars...and at $6/qt that can get expen$ive.
SAAB shows a 10,000 mile drain interval (something like that) but with the ambient being warmish, this seems long for petroleum oils.
Thus the question: would you/do you use synthetics in your ride? Any verification of the leak-prone characteristic?
Etcetera etcetera.
Whaddaya think?
(I plan to start using synthetic in my 73 MGB after the new engine is broken in using 10-30 or the like).
