I bought my 93 9S as my daily driver to replace a 91 Subaru AWD (which is dying). (I hope the SAAB handles as well on the country roads around here--in N. California's wine coountry--the Subie is awesome and really points out that my MGBs are old oxcarts with motors) (don't tell the mGB list this, however<G>)
The subie ate front axles for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I had to replace both sides twice (due to boot degradation and resulting contamination of in CV joints)in about 90,000 miles. But the axles were cheap, I could replace both fronts for about $350 (hiring the work out to a pretty good shop).
What about the 900S? I notice that the axles are as much for one as the Subie was for 2.
Are the boots heavier or ??
Any particular tips on having them last?
I am under the impression that unless one catches boot failure very early on, it is more labor-costly to replace the boot (including cleaning the joint) than to replace the assembly, and this seems sensible since a proper job would seem to require removal, cleaning, and reinstallation.)
TIA (Thanks In Advance)
