The symptom appears that the pressure plate is not disengaging the clutch, so its like trying to change gears without pressing the pedal.
Did you replace the PP & clucth as part of the slave cyclinder job? If so, are you sure that you have the correct PP and clutch? Your assertion that the pedal feels fine, and that you see the throwout bearing pushing on the PP fingers, appears to indicate the hydrolics are fine.
Can you move the car with the transmission in gear, engine off, brakes released, and pedal pressed? If not, transmission is not disengaged. As I recall on 900 (I'm visiting from the 9000 BB), there is only one way to re-mate the shifter to the transmission, so what you think is neutral actually is, as is first, second, ....
