Hi All,
So I'm merrily replacing my clutch this weekend. The whole works, disc/PP/resurfaced flywheel and all seals. When we went to take the spacer out of the pressure plate, and finish bleeding the system, we hear a pop and see brake fluid -- dammit!! I got the aftermarket kit from Eeuroparts, and after reading here that the aftermarket slaves are not the best, I was convinced by the sales guy to get the kit anyway since he swore by them. In any case, here's where I'm at: brake fluid got on the clutch disc. Even though there was no hydraulic presssure, we managed to get everything off (PP/disc/slave) remarkably easily, and so the parts are now sitting on my bench. What did i do wrong?? I filled the slave up with fluid, and I did pump the pedal a little to see if it had pressure, before we pulled the spacer. Anyway, I guess the question is what do i do now? Do I
1. Buy a new Saab OEM slave, and put everything back together, using the contaminated disc (which I cleaned off)?
2. Rebuild the aftermarket slave, and go for Round 2?
3. Get Eeuroparts to send me a new aftermarket slave?
4. Finally, a side issue: is it possible to overcompress the pressure plate fingers?? I had my machinist put the PP in the press and we stuck a piece of wire in there that was probably 5-6mm maybe a litt more, the fingers were compressed pretty far down so installation was a breeze. I just wonder if this is ok since we were actually able to get the slave out with just a little prying. Did I just get lucky? If I screwed this up then it's basically new clutch kit time...
I know some of you out there have been through this, I'd love it if you could share your thoughts!!
