You should have the plastic with no adjustment, or P in the writeup. Use that for various resistance and ground checks.

As to fixing the AMM, I've never done it. I've just gotten a rebuilt (about $150 from the various sponsors on the BB) and put it in.

Frankly, the fact that the engine idles fine while for the first minute or so says it ISN'T the AMM. When the engine is cold, it uses the AMM only for fuel metering. Once the O2 sensor kicks in, it influences fuel, especially at idle.

Here's a trick for you - find a way to add a wire from the body of the O2 sensor to chassis ground. The body of the O2 sensor is the ground return, but we're talking about a very small (< 1 volt) signal here. If the grounding isn't good, you'll get a whacky O2 sensor signal, even with a nice, new sensor. That's why Saab went to a 4-wire O2 sensor in later year - two for the heater, one for signal, and one for signal ground.
