Don't worry about getting the official SAAB tool.
When you have the shift coupler pinch bolt loosened up so the shift lever moves freely, pull the shift rod coming out of the transmission backwards as hard as you can to get it into third. Then, put a drill bit in the alignment hole in the front of the shifter assembly and tighten up the coupler pinch bolt. Check it and, if it's not quite right, it's an easy redo.
As far as the shift lever rotating, you have to replace the nylon pivot ball assembly. There are two nylon locating pins that keep it from rotating and they've broken. Either that or the clevis pin that holds the lower ball onto the shift lever has fallen out.
