easiest way to unseize that rotor is with the dist removed. It's a matter of flushing the old dried oils (now glue) with solvent, then relubing with some sort of light oil. You might be able to do the same with the dist on, but gravity better helps the solvent to flow down into the surfaces of the effected area, plus the general cleaning out of the distributor. Yes, the ignition timing can effect how hot your engine burns. With the advance rotor stuck in the "idle position" the ignition will be firing late, or retarded during the higher cruising RPM's, where it should be advanced. That means more fuel is unburned during the power stroke and burns up outside the combustion chamber inside the exhaust ports. That'll make your cyl head hotter and increase the coolant temps. That condition can also heat up the cat convertor which leads to the melting of the ignition switch wiring insulation located just above the cat, a known cause of a car interior fire.
