Weird a/c problem...

While driving to work yesterday, I had the a/c on and all of a sudden I heard a screeching noise. I saw and smelled smoke coming from the hood, so I flicked the a/c off and pulled off the road to see what the problem was.
It turned out to be that the main engine wiring harness that runs behind the topside of the engine had broken free from its plastic holder and wedged itself against the a/c belt. The friction had melted away the plastic covering of the harness and was just about to start cutting into the wires contained within it. I pulled the harness up and over the engine to keep it away from the a/c belt and continued on my drive. No wires had been damaged (thank goodness).
When I flicked the a/c back on, everything worked properly except that there is no cold air coming out of the vents now. The compressor clicks on and spins, and the two fans turn on as well. I checked the 30 amp fuse for the a/c and it is fine.
What could have happened? What can I check?
