John, The clatter you hear when traversing washboard roads is most likely failed front shock bushings. The right side usually goes first because the right side of the road is always rougher(sewers, drains and debris).
If the shock mount frame bolt is not perfectly centered in the lower shock eye, the rubber bushings are probably shot. In the NYC area, I replace those bushing every 2 or 3 years. I think the last set I installed were "Polyurethane", and have lasted longer. With the car lifted by the frame, you must carefully jack-up the front wheel to unload the spring tension from the fully extended shock. Only then will you be able to feel the play/slack in the worn bushing, or R&R the bushing. If you go with the Poly bushing, put the bushing in a paper cup and pour boiling water over it to soften it, lubricate with dish soap (not grease) and press in with a vise and socket.
While you're at it, tighten up all the rear swingarm and panhard rod bolts.
