Wheel bearing.

So I did the right CV joint on the SPG a few weeks back, and the boot they sent me wasn't quite long enough on the hub side to cover the joint between the hub and the CV joint. I figured it would allow dirt in towards the wheel bearing, but after a few hours of wrestling with the thing, I wasn't about to take it all apart again. Sure enough, two weeks later I have a loud humming coming from the wheel bearing area. Question is this; how long can a bad bearing be left alone before I risk getting stranded somewhere with my right hub melting or on fire or something? Too busy and broke right now to fix it, so I need to put it off.
Also, I can hear a leak coming from the brake booster after I turn the car off. I'm assuming it's the seal inside the booster leaking the vacuum out. This is lame because when I boost, I have pretty much no brakes for a few seconds afterwards, which I gather is from boost filling up the booster, thus purging all vacuum and leaving me without power assisted brakes. Eh, any ideas? Thanks.
