As long as the ECU responds to the O2 sensor signal and alternates mixture between slightly rich and slightly lean, ther's no damage. You're using a fairly low-voltage DVM.
As far as the wire goes, it's not a big issue. You're just seeing manufacturing variations between when your original sensor was made and when the new sensor was made. As long as the signal has a path to get to the ECU, it's fine. Think of it this way: the ground portion of the Oxygen sensor signal path goes from the body of the sensor through the turbo discharge elbow, through the turbo, through the turbo-to-exhaust manifold bolts, through the exhaust manifold, through the exhaust manifold bolts, through the head, and through the intake manifold bolts get to the ground point on the front lifting eye from which it goes to the ECU to complete the circuit. As long as you made a good splice, it'll work OK.
