maybe... it's what happened to my wifes car. there is a bulb in the dash that burned out. (it was either the generator or check engine, can't remember - just make sure all of your's come on at key on) if it's not working the generator won't charge under 2000 rpm. sounds weird but it's a fact. her battery kept going flat because average speeds on the freeway were low, hence under 2k rpm and running on the battery. She had to call the auto club to jump it but, like you, it kept stopping when the jumper cables were removed. She had called me and I arrived on scene to see this. I got behind the wheel, the guy jumped the car, I brought the revs up and it ran. Got the AAA guy to disconnect and shut the hood, still running ok. Wife drove my car home and I drove hers. I made it home as it was after rush hour traffic and 75 all the way home. Talked to a saab buddy at the time and learned the strange fact. Check your indicator bulbs in the dash, either the check engine or charge bulb.
