Owen,
I'm new to the Saab community but recently bought a well maintained '91 900 convertible for my daughter to drive. So far in the last two months I have spent as much on repairs as I did to purchase the car. The cost of repairs are high unless you can do the work yourself. Parts prices at the dealership are exhorbitant. So far I have replaced leaking hydraulic cylinders for the top, front suspension bushings, ball joints, etc. Air conditioner compressor, and front (rear)main seal.
At least now, I know what I have and am confident that it is safe and reliable for my daughter to drive.
My advice is to buy the best that you can find and expect to spend some more. I wouldn't recommend an eBay purchase without a hands-on inspection and test drive first.
Good luck.
