I've owned a couple 85's now. The issue you talked about didn't, to me, sound like an AMM to me. When mine went out and had to feather the gas non-stop to get the car to run. But you never know so you may check it out!!

If it were me, I'd look at the vac hoses. Then I'd start to question the brake booster. As for the brake booster do you have it stall sometimes when you at a stop sign or low speed hard braking? I've seen the booster fail when under boost and more likely at idle. Meaning it failed and causes the car to run funny.

Take out the AIC and clean it with some carb cleaner. It from both ends and clean any crud out from it. John had my 3rd item with the temp sensor. It sounds like an issue until you get warmed up. Which also makes me second-guess the AMM. An AMM cost a lot more then most of the other checks. So I’d put it at the bottom of the list.

Try this, I assume the issue is under cold starts. Pull only the fat line going to the booster and plug it at the intake manifold. Then start it up. If it dies, check it off the list and move on. Then clean the AIC just for kicks. I would run the car too much since your trouble shooting the cold start issue. So if it dies leave it off and move on.

I was not trying to be rude John; I enjoy reading a lot of your posts.

PS let me know hen you give up and want to sell me my car. ;-)
