Don't know if this will help but I had a similar problem with my '86 SPG. I had the by pass valve replaced while the mechanic was doing other work and he failed to replace the original plastic clamp with a new one on the hose from the throttle box. This resulted in the turbo blowing off the hose from the by pass valve. I reconnected the hose to the valve and secured it with a steel screw clamp and the start problem was solved. Long story shorter ( I hope), I think it would be a good idea to go over all the hoses and vacuum lines first to make sure you don't have a leak or disconnection.
I spent a small bundle ( new AMM, ECU, AIC valve , on & on) chasing down this problem before finding the disconnected hose on the valve while I was replacing vacuum lines with silicone. I'm glad to have all the new parts I replaced but they weren't the problem.
BTW, I no longer take my car to the guy who replaced the valve .... I live close to Swedecar and Anders works on my car now and does an excellent job helping me keep my car running like it did when it was a kid off the showroom floor.
