I have visually checked the wires on the alt.
seems to me they are good. the strap is not broken and everything seems tight.
the battery may be completely spent. looks like it could be the original from 1992-93.
i dont see it replaced in the dealer work copies i have.
perhaps it is original.
perhaps the alt. is not charging due to a low voltage from near dead battery. i assume this could go on for some time if the car was started six days a week and driven for twenty minutes twice a day. this was the owners commute. maybe it was overlooked.
i assume the alt. regulator pack and brushes could be good because they are at 64K miles from new with the car.
perhaps it is a fault within the alt. which as i remember is servicable right? same with the starter. At least i remember a friend rebuilding stuff like that a long time ago.
am going to go down to sears and get a die hard battery to see if the higher volts will help. have a feeling it will start right up and then i can check the alt. at idle. is this advisable? my cheapo old volt meter needs a cable so I havent fixed it yet to use. guess i have to start somewhere.
