why not just replace the valve? It's not too difficult, really. The thing that made mine easier was to remove the drivers seat, my back really appreciated it. the valve is about $28 or so from several suppliers (I've used eEuroparts). Once you get the new one take it out and check the four screw. they should be torx. the magic step is to go to a good autoparts store and get a "ball end" torx driver. it will make getting the screws out, and in, much easier. when you are putting the new valve in be sure and put petoleum jelly on the valve where and two orings go, then press the orings on. they will stay put for the installation. ALSO, to make putting the heater control rod back on eaiser, turn both the valve and the control all the way hot (or cold as you chose). As you slip the valve up to the openings slip the control rod on. Also, make sure you put the two hoses from the engine bay back correctly... one way work, one way you don't get heat...
You can remove the left heater grill to see every thing too. This really only takes about an hour, less seat removable and reinstall.
