So now it won't start at all. I assume that means the starter cranks OK but it doesn't fire??
Got spark?
Got fuel?
Spark plugs fouled from unsuccessful attempts?
Take out the plywood trunk floor & pop the disk over the fuel pump cover. That way you can listen whether the fuel pump is running. It's not supposed to prime itself for a second before cranking, like some cars do. It'll only run while the ECU sees a tachometer signal, so you have to listen while the starter is cranking. It's not easy to hear...
You get code 12231 (no ignition signal) which is normal with the engine not running. But try this... Crank the starter for a few seconds, then release the key, but DON'T turn it off. Now connect the jumper & read error codes. This time code 12231 should NOT appear if the ECU saw the ignition signal (tachometer signal) properly.
Most people say to watch the tachometer while cranking the starter, that's usually a good check. But the ECU actually gets the ignition signal thru a different circuit vs. the tachometer. If the ECU doesn't see the ignition signal, it won't run the fuel pump or fire the injectors.
