A relatively easy thing to do is to check all the vacuum lines and especially the two larger hoses connected to the by pass valve. The hose running to the throttle from the BPV blew off with turbo back pressure at the valve end in my car. This caused bad warm up idle - I had to keep it going with the accelerator. It ran after warmed up but not well. The plastic clamps on these hoses can fail with age and if the "seal" on the hose has been disturbed, such as when replacing a BPV, the clamp can't hold the hose. Steel worm drive clamps should be used in place of the plastic ones.
