Are these symptoms the reason that your Saab specialist says you need an ECU? If it was my car I would ensure that there are no intake vacuum leaks and then swap in a known good air mass meter. I've found this to be a more likely cause of your symptoms. Don't buy an air mass meter until you try that test, they cost a lot of money. You could alternatively put your air mass meter in a good running car and see if catches your symptoms but give it time for the ECU to adapt before drawing a conclussion. Good Saab mechanics know how to adjust air mass meters. The adjustment is limited and often won't solve the problem but it's always worth a try before buying a replacement. A new Bosch meter ($300-400)is of course the best bet but there are some good rebuilt units for about half the cost. There are also some real bad rebuilts out there. ECU's for your car all everywhere that C900 Saabs are being parted and new ones can be had from some of the advertisers on Saabnet. Your "Saab specialist" can't find one? mmmm?
